Introducing TripYara Ride Mode: Stay Connected With Your Riding Group, Even Offline
Published: October 15, 2026 | Product Update: v24 (1.2.4)
Road trips are better when everyone can ride together. But when mobile networks disappear on remote mountain roads, staying in touch with your riding group can become a challenge.
Introducing TripYara Ride Mode, a new way for riders to communicate, share their location and coordinate group rides using Google Nearby Connections — without requiring an internet connection or SIM card for rider-to-rider communication.
Designed for group rides and remote road trips, Ride Mode brings essential communication tools together in one place.
What’s New in Ride Mode?
1. Offline Rider-to-Rider Communication
Ride Mode uses Google Nearby Connections to enable communication between nearby riders without relying on mobile internet or a SIM card.
- Text chat: Send messages to members of your riding group.
- Push-to-talk voice: Communicate using voice with G.711 μ-law audio at 16 kHz and floor control to manage who can speak.
- Hands-free locked talk: Keep talk mode locked when you need continuous hands-free communication.
- Headset and car media controls: Double-press a supported headset or car media button to lock or unlock talk mode.
2. Share Your Location With Your Group
Help your group stay coordinated with location sharing that shows distance and direction. You can also open a shared location in Maps for navigation.
3. Keep Your Ride Running With the Screen Off
Ride Mode uses a foreground service to keep an active ride running when your phone screen is off, helping you stay connected without needing to keep the display on.
4. Automatic Reconnection
If a rider temporarily disconnects, Ride Mode attempts to reconnect automatically using bounded backoff. This helps manage temporary connection drops during a ride.
5. Flexible Audio Routing
Choose your preferred audio route from the available options:
- Auto
- Phone speaker
- Bluetooth
- Wired headset
- USB audio
Ride Mode checks the audio route reported by Android and pauses its audio behavior during phone calls.
6. Group Rides for Up to 8 Participants
Ride Mode supports group rides with up to eight participants, along with host handover and relay rate limiting.
You can also save frequently used groups under MY RIDE GROUPS and start or join them again with a single tap.
Built for Real-World Riding
Ride Mode is designed around the practical needs of group travel: communication, location sharing, audio controls and recovery from connection drops.
The release includes 65 unit tests covering Ride Mode functionality.
Actual performance can depend on device compatibility, Bluetooth and headset behavior, and the surrounding radio environment. Offline communication is intended for nearby riders within the supported connection range; it does not provide unlimited-distance communication.
How to Get Started
- Install or update TripYara to version v24 (1.2.4).
- Open Ride Mode and create or join a riding group.
